The annual events of the Instrumental Music & Dance Program are listed in chronological order.

JOG-A-THON event

Who: All new and returning Blue Star Regiment members
Date: Early June
Check In: 8:30 am
Time: 9am - 10:15 am

Our members, new and returning, begin the new year at the end of the year. The Jog-a-thon takes place in June, and donations fund the fall edition of the Blue Star Regiment. Members earn a free member shirt if they turn in 10 or more pledge forms.

BAND CAMP summer 2017

Who: Blue Star Regiment
Dates: August
Time: 8am - 4pm daily
Place: North HS

Our annual band camp sets the Blue Star Regiment up for a successful season. Students attend daily, and learn the music and the drill for the competition show.  Additional information is available a this link:  BSR Band Camp


Home games feature a half time performance by members of the Blue Star Regiment. Home games take place at King HS. These games are scheduled throughout the fall months. Football games are posted on the master calendar as soon as the schedule is published.

Away games are also scheduled as part of the Blue Star Regiment's season, and are attended by a smaller pep band. Usually limited to one bus, the students perform their stand tunes throughout the games.

HOLIDAY concert

The annual Holiday Concert takes place in December. Members of all the band classes perform traditional holiday classics making a terrific evening in the Little Theater.



SaxophoneMembers of the Blue Star Regiment are often invited to perform on Main Street USA in a pre-parade march through the park. Students also get to spend the day in the park free as part of their performance invitation!

DANCE teams

The dance teams, under the direction of Christine Schive, perform indoors in January, February and March. Auditions for the "large" and "small" teams takes place in December after members are finished with the Blue Star Regiment performances.  Many members of the dance teams are also part of the Winter Guard.

WINTER guard

The winter guard performs indoors in January through April. Auditions for the team takes place in December after members are finished with the Blue Star Regiment performances.  Many members of the winter guard are also part of the dance teams.


The winter drum line performs throughout southern California in the Southern California Percussion Alliance circuit. The ensemble performs in February and March. 


Students in the Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony perform concert "sets" at the annual RUSD music festival. The festival takes place in the third week of March each year, and is held at Ramona HS.

THEATER orchestra

The pit orchestra performs with the drama department in this annual production of a musical. Shows take place the last weekend of April and the first week of May.

CONCERT on the green

A tradition that has brought elementary, middle school, and high school music students together for years, take place "on the green" at University Heights Middle School. Students perform in massed bands in the quad area starting at dinner time. This event makes a great family picnic opportunity.

PRISM concert

The Synergy ensemble and auxiliary members perform together on stage at the Little Theater, in a night of dance and music. Tech auxiliary members perform small ensembles and solos, while Synergy performs a marching music performance modeled after the popular broadway hit, Blast.

AWARDS banquet

Our annual banquet takes place on the first Saturday in June. Every member is recognized, and a dance finishes off the evening's festivities.


The members of the band not graduating perform at the annual graduation.  This is a tradition, a performance in front of over 7000 people, goes back to the founding of North High School.
